Books: writing, reading, knowledge
Bowties: Freakin' Doctor Who.

When describing my personality to other people, I will rattle off the stereotypical nice things to say, like I'm bubbly, enthusiastic, etc......but one thing people should always know about me is that I am one, big nerd. I won't give the violin-induced background story, but let's just say many moons ago I read a little book called Harry Potter and learned what the word "obsession" meant. Eleven years later, I'm still just as in love with good ol' Harry, but now my intense love has transferred to other books, shows, and movies, and I am proud of it.
This past weekend was probably the nerdiest, and one of the best, weekends of my life. Friday began with the Doctor Who 50th Celebration, which was a hugeeeee Comic Con-like conference at the ExCel center outside of London. When searching back in early October for any Doctor Who-related events for the anniversary, I entered my name in a drawing to win last-minute tickets, and I did! I asked my dear friend Pam to go with me, and we had a blast.

And we were the EARLY ones....

Of course, there were things that could have been improved--the standing in line, the intense crowds, etc, but I overall had a fabulous time. We started out in the arena area, where the Special Effects team demonstrated how to make Daleks explode and snow fall. We then got shuffled upstairs to the main hall, which had all sorts of booths and stands set up, including the makeup trailer, stunt team demonstrations, autograph booths, official merchandise (two hour long wait...sorry my Whovian friends...I was not waiting in that line for you), and a café. I headed in a very poorly marked queue to see, once again, my favorite actress ever Jenna-Louise Coleman.
She claims she remembers me, and based on how our conversation went when I was getting her autograph, I am inclined to believe her. Either way, it was awesome to talk to her again.
Then we had some free time to walk around and see what was going on. I grabbed some food while Pam looked at all of the costumes on display (hint: they took them from the DW Experience in Cardiff so I had already seen them before). Then we caught the end of a Camille Coduri interview (Jackie Tyler) right before I had to get back in the autograph line for Sylvester McCoy, the Seventh Doctor. He was the cutest little button and signed my Tardis phonecase. After that, we shuffled back into the arena for the next two panels, Regenerations, featuring Peter Davison, Sylvester McCoy, and Colin Baker, and The Eleventh Hour, featuring Matt Smith, Jenna-Louise Coleman, and Steven Moffat. It was all wonderful.
I mean, how cool is that?!
After that, we were supposed to get an autograph from Camille Coduri, but apparently she was feeling ill so she left early. We took one look at the line to the official merchandise and decided it was time to call it a day. We rode the DLR back and I had a quick meet up with Kate and Selina the night before...
...Harry Potter! On Saturday morning the four of us took a train to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. When I say that seeing all of the props, sets, costumes, and locations of Harry Potter affected me, I'm making a huge understatement. Being near the places and objects that once held (and still hold) such an important place in my heart basically rendered me to tears every time I turned a corner and saw something new. Don't even get me started on the scale model of Hogwarts because I will literally start crying as I'm typing this. If you're a Harry Potter fan, then these pictures will probably affect you as deeply as they affected me.
And to wrap up the wonderful weekend, Pam and I watched the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary at Selina's flat. Shout out to the both of them for putting up with my screaming and fangirling because oh my, it was perfect.
Now I have to go to class but the summary of this weekend is that I love Doctor Who and Harry Potter and the people I share them with okay xoxoxo
